Our Values

Our History

In 2006, letters patent were filed, and on March 30th of that year, Georgina Trades Training Incorporated (GTTI) was officially established. The realization of this vision was the result of collaboration among numerous individuals, agencies, organizations, and institutions. A pivotal contribution came from The Story of the North, a research project conducted by the York Region District School Board, which provided critical background data. With this foundation, GTTI defined its mission and vision: to deliver education and training opportunities in an area lacking similar resources. The organization was brought to life through the combined efforts of two school boards, a municipality, funding agencies, a chamber of commerce, and dedicated volunteers.

Over the years, GTTI has significantly expanded its scope and reach. By continuously adapting to workforce trends, employer needs, and community demands, the organization now offers a diverse array of training courses. While Georgina remains a central focus, GTTI has broadened its service area, delivering programs to students and businesses across York Region, Durham Region, the Greater Toronto Area, and beyond.

In recognition of this growth, GTTI underwent a rebranding in 2023. The organization adopted a new name, Skills Training Centre, along with a refreshed logo to better reflect its expanded mandate and geographic reach.

Land Acknowledgment

Skills Training Centre recognizes and acknowledges that we are on lands originally used and occupied by the First Peoples of the Williams Treaties First Nations and other Indigenous Peoples, and on behalf of the Board of Directors, we would like to thank them for sharing this land. We would also like to acknowledge the Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation as our close neighbour and friend, one with which we strive to build a cooperative and respectful relationship.

We also recognize the unique relationship the Chippewas have with the lands and waters of this territory. They are the water protectors and environmental stewards of these lands, and we join them in these responsibilities.
