For more than 16 years the GTTI-Skills Training Centre has brought skills training to the doorstep of Georgina residents. The demand for skills training is greater than it has ever been, resulting in significant changes in the way this training is being funded and delivered. The Skills Training Centre (GTTI) see this as a positive move for Ontario’s economic future.
In order to respond to these changes, GTTI will be suspending operations for three months in order to determine our role in this new skills training environment and explore the partnerships and funding required to deliver skills training to the residents of Georgina and respond to the employment needs of our local business community.
A lot of hard work and dedication by staff and a volunteer board of directors has contributed to the success of the Skills Training Centre (GTTI). GTTI has delivered skills training to over 13,000 individuals over the past 16 years, but it is time to revisit our delivery models. “While I am sad to see the need for this break in our long running and continuous programming it is the prudent option” said Anne Pegg, a founding board member.
Ms. Peggs sentiments were echoed by Iain Donnell board vice-chair who added “We are exploring options that will address the needs of some new business coming to our catchment area requiring logistics and e-commerce competencies”.
During the next few weeks, staff at GTTI will be winding down current programs and are working to ensure those currently enrolled in programming will be able to finish. All programs have concluded as of November 29th. GTTI is currently closed to the public to allow staff and board members to work on a new delivery model and future programming options.
